Solid Ground Skill Shares offer group-based learning opportunities geared towards new and beginning farmers, but are open and welcome to farmers of all experience levels who wish to sharpen or broaden their skills. Skill Shares take place on farms throughout the state, providing a firsthand look at how peer farmers have approached common challenges and the opportunity to network with other growers in a supportive environment. Next up on June 24th: Join us at Allard Family Farm for a discussion on chicken tractor designs. Hear from Ben and Molly Allard as they share how they’ve improved upon their original design to make it work for them and their production needs. We will discuss cost limitations, materials, pasture management, and more as we break down their build and how it has evolved since they first started out. MacKenzie White, UConn Extension's Diversified Livestock Specialist, will also be there to speak to alternative approaches and provide insight on how to align design decisions with your farm’s capacity and goals. Date: Wednesday June 24, 2026 Time: 4:00pm-6:30pm Location: Allard Family Farm, Bolton, CT Please note this event requires a 10-15 minute walk from the car to the learning site. Cost to attend is $15. Dinner will be provided.
