Community-Engaged Scholarship Reported by Faculty

This page presents the first annual summary of community-engaged scholarship reported by UConn faculty for the 2024–2025 academic year. The data reflects faculty work that is intentionally designed to address societal issues and/or integrate community partners as co-creators of knowledge or co-educators.

As a baseline year, this report establishes an initial picture of the scope and diversity of community-engaged scholarship at UConn and provides a foundation for future reporting, assessment, and institutional learning.

The categories below represent the types of community-engaged scholarly products reported by faculty during the 2024–2025 academic year. These outputs reflect multiple ways faculty collaborate with communities to generate knowledge, educate learners, and contribute to the public good.

Defining Community-Engaged Scholarship

For the purposes of this report, community-engaged scholarship is defined as scholarly activity that:

  • Integrates community partners as co-creators of new knowledge or novel ways to interpret and apply information, and/or as co-educators; and/or
  • Is intentionally conducted to address or positively impact societal issues.

This definition recognizes a broad range of scholarly contributions, including research, teaching, creative activity, and public scholarship, and emphasizes intentionality, reciprocity, and public impact.

Why This Data Matters

Collecting this information helps make community-engaged scholarship visible across the university and ensures that diverse forms of faculty work are accurately represented in institutional data.

Faculty reporting plays a key role in documenting how scholarship is conducted with communities and in response to societal issues.

Looking Ahead

This first year of reporting establishes a shared starting point for understanding community-engaged scholarship at UConn. Continued faculty participation helps strengthen this collective picture over time.

Faculty are encouraged to report their community-engaged scholarship through Interfolio. More information about using Interfolio is available on the Office of the Provost website.
